The Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) has launched an innovative project "3D Digital Twin & Physical Model of Ravi City" aimed at revolutionizing urban planning and development through the creation of a comprehensive digital twin of the entire RUDA jurisdiction.

State-of-the-art procedural modeling techniques have been deployed to develop a dynamic and realistic 3D Digital Twin, the first of its kind in Pakistan. This allows for informed planning, infrastructure management, and development optimization.

A geospatial digital twin is one built on a foundation of geographic information system (GIS) technology. As digital twin technology has advanced, geospatial digital twins have emerged as being the most comprehensive, versatile, and useful. A digital twin relies on a number of layers of data that build on top of each other, layering in information about the terrain, buildings, infrastructure, mobility, and IoT devices. The digital twin uses the data generated in the virtual smart city layer to perform additional simulations; this information is fed back through the layers of the model, where it can be implemented in the physical world. The work under this assignment is limited up to Layer 2 with the availability of Planning Support System Functionality.

The 3D Digital Twin of RUDA became a reality by integrating diverse data sources, including topography, zonation, master planning, CAD drawings, GIS files, and satellite imagery etc. The digital twin is live now and accessible via 3D Digital Twin Web Application, providing RUDA stakeholders with a powerful tool for visualization and analysis. Public users also have access to the platform, allowing them to explore the future urban design in three dimensions and understand how RUDA plans to evolve over time.

It is anticipated that this digital twin will serve as a crucial tool for RUDA, enabling detailed simulations, predictive analyses, and real-time monitoring, all of which are essential for the effective management of a modern and sustainable urban space.
